How to Draw Rapunzel, Tangled
September 23, 2011 in tutorial
Here’s a tutorial on how to draw Rapunzel from Disney’s “Tangled.”
Lightly sketch Rupunzel in. I used an HB pencil for the sketching stages of this drawing. Sketch in a guideline for the hair.
Start out with an extremely basic sketch of the figure.
Sketch in Rapunzel's hair.
Now start defining your lines with a darker pencil. I used a mechanical pencil with B lead in it.
Continue defining your lines. Working from top to bottom is usually most convenient.
Define the rest of her dress and her legs.
After you have worked on the outline of her hair lightly shade over the entire drawing. You may lose a bit of detail but don't worry too much about it. I used an HB pencil and a blending stump for this.
Shade in the same order that you outlined, from head to toe to hair. I used my B pencil for dark shading along side my HB pencil. I also used a 3H pencil for light shading. Blendind stumps were used here and there to smooth out the shading.
Shade in her torso and arms.
Shade in her dress and legs.
This is the easiest way that I found of shading her hair. Start out by roughly shading over hair. I used an HB pencil and tortillio for this.
Next, use an eraser to erase the highlights and lighter strands of hair. Sharpenable erasers come in handy here.
Finish up the drawing by refiningh the hair and background. Try to go over all of your outlines to make them more bold.
